Life Orientation is the holistic study of the self in relation to others and to society. It develops student teachers' interpersonal skills and prepares them for life’s responsibilities and possibilities. The course aims at promoting acquisition of life skills, values and attitudes for positive behavior formation change. It focuses on the use of life skills to prevent and/or cope with important social problems. Particular attention is given to HIV/AIDS, gender norms and equality and human rights and child protection, drugs and alcohol abuse. Sexuality education is also addressed.
