Student-teachers will be introduced to four communication skills, grammatical structures, phonological awareness and phonics. Further, they will be exposed to children's literature (poems, drama, narrative, totems, folktales and riddles). In addition, this course intends to use Breakthrough to Literacy (BTL) practices to foster language and literacy skills. Methods of teaching, lesson plans and assessing literacy development in children will also be dealt with.
